Washing Dishes
I grew up in a house without a dishwasher. It wasn't until I was 15 that we had a house with a dishwasher. From that time on, life as we knew it would change. No, my mom still did the dishes from time to time or one of us would but for the most part we used the dishwasher. I mean WHO WOULDN'T? When I was 18 I moved out of the house. I moved in with two of my high school friends and was there until I graduated high school (like two months). That house didn't have a dishwasher, however, I was hardly ever home so I didn't really wash any dishes. College dorms require you to eat on campus or get take out so again, hardly any dishes when I started college.
Fast forward to when I moved to Missouri in 2007. I moved in with my now husband just a few months in to our relationship and low and behold...... we had a dishwasher. I was in heaven. Now, it wasn't the best and yes, it was a older model but I DIDN'T have to wash dishes, I could throw them in and take them out when I needed to. In 2009 I got married and we moved to IL. Our apartment tiny as it was had a dishwasher so no big deal everything was great. 2010 we moved back to MO and back into our old location. I was happy to be home.
November 2011 we moved to a house that took A LOT of work to update. The dishwasher that was in the house was disgusting and the bottom was filled with mouse poop. I would show you a picture but I think we all know what mouse poop looks like. Anyway, we had to get a new dishwasher and we did. By April 2012 I'm back to using the old method (that's washing by hand for those of you young kids who have no idea).
For the time being I'm enjoying doing it the old fashioned way. I even went so far as to buy a strainer to sit the dishes in for drying. You know what else I've noticed? My dishes appear cleaner AND they don't have spots AND they actually get dry! I'm not saying I won't use the dishwasher ever again but for now I'm going to use my hands. It gives my time to ponder life.
