DIY! Twin Sheets to Curtains
Let me start by saying, I am not a fan of curtains. I could spend the rest of my life not having curtains, but I couldn't take watching my husband pin up a blue twin sheet with clothes pins in front of our window just because the TV was glaring any longer. I have always considered making curtains but I am cheap and spending a minimum of $8 a yard on fabric isn't okay with me, not when the total would come to like $80 for two windows and that doesn't include the rods. So I got online and starting searching for other alternatives and I found just what I needed, twin sheets.
Total cost for me was $25! I opted for those cheap white rods that just extend instead of fancy ones for now.
4 Flat Twin Sheets = $20
2 Cheap 48"-86" Curtain Rods = $5
Step 1 - Go to walmart and purchase FLAT twin sheets. They have several colors and even a few prints. I opted for a cream shade. They are $5 each.
Step 2 - If you are so inclined, wash your sheets. I just threw mine in the dryer on dewrinkle to get rid of the major creases then laid them out flat on the floor until I was ready for the next step.
Step 3 - Grab the end of the sheet that has the bigger seam portion, you know the part you put by your pillows? Fold it over it's seam and then pin it down so that you can sew it. OR if you don't have a machine simply fold it over and use the heat bond to seal the new seam you will be creating.
This is two different sheets. The top one has been folded at the seam and pinned. |
You should end up with a hole all the way across to put your rod through. |

Notes --- If you don't want your curtains to puddle at the ground you will need to measure how high up you need to take your curtains. Once you do this simply pin your sheet at it's correct measurement follow step 4 again. I opted for mine to puddle.
Totally doing this at the next house! I love curtains but I want to change them all the time its just too expensive!
