31 week appt
Had a fairly good appt today with my dr. I'm measuring right at 31wks and Rory's HR was in the 130's today and it's usually in the 150's but the doc didn't seem concerned. Below is how the rest of the appt went.
We have two hospitals here in town and and my OB can deliver at both so I asked him which he prefers. This was his answer --- "What does your insurance say?" I replied that both are out of network so either way it will cost the same. So he continues, "Well it depends. If I have a lot of women at St. Johns then I will want you to go there, if I have a lot at Cox then I will want you to go to that one. It really just depends on the season and how things work out. You are able to pre-register at both so just do that and then when it gets closer and I know what my schedule looks like birth wise we can decide where to have you go." That's no help to me but it looks like I will register at both...I've already registerd at Cox and they are both about the same distance from my house so that's not an issue. And I have heard nothing but good things about each one so yeah....My only thoughts are that if I choose the Pedi that I'm wanting then I will be delivering at Cox because she only has privileges there.
The other thing -- I asked him which hospital would be better for a natural birth. Which one would be more supportive of my choice. His Response -- " What do you consider natural birth?" I said that I don't want an epi and prefer no meds and for it to be vaginal. His response -- " Do you like pain? (Then he smiled and continues to smile while he's saying the rest) You will probably change your mind since this is your first and in my experience the women who plan one thing usually end up doing the complete opposite. Labor and birth isn't like what they show on TV. It hurts." Now he did also say that he would support my decision of a natural birth but to just be prepared to make changes and be open to them if I need them. I'm open to meds but I am not open to an epi...I just do not want one at all.

So yeah...that's where me and my delivery options are standing at the moment. Nothing was taken care of and I'm not sure if I'm annoyed or not. I suppose as long as I preregister and tour both then I can see which I prefer. I don't talk to the Pediatrician until Jan 12th and I don't know who I will go with if I don't like her because she is the only one that is affiliated with one of the hospitals and takes Tricare. We can always go out of network but I would like not to. 5% can make a big difference when there's only one income.
