Cut Ribbon 12" - They will shrink to about 6-7" So if you want longer ones cut ribbon longer |
Pre-Heat Oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit |
Using long cylinder object - I use wooden chopsticks others use 18" wooden dowels- wrap ribbon length of stick holding ends with clothes pins. |
This is what wrapped sticks should look like |
Run them under water for a few seconds. The oven will absorb the moisture while baking. |
Place them on a pan of your liking |
Stick them in the oven for 20 minutes. You may need to experiment with your oven to see what works best for you. When done baking let cool for about 10 minutes. |
Twist the stick and pull downward while holding ribbon. It may get stuck on a splinter or two but just adjust and you will be good to go. Make sure to do this slowly so that you don't pull curl out. |
This is what you should end up with. The stick may get dyed in color. If so just use those sticks for the color it has changed to such as the pink on these sticks. The ribbon now measures 6-7" long. |
I fold the ribbon and cut it in half. These will make korkers that measure 3-4" across when cut. |
All the cut in half ribbon. |
I then heat seal the ends with a lighter. Simply hold lighter to each end for a few seconds. You will see the ribbon melt. Be careful not to light the ribbon on fire as you will burn it. |
There you have it. You now know how to curl ribbon. It is very time consuming but if you are interested in making a few of your own korker bows then it's worth it. From start to finish it probably takes about an hour to prep, bake, cut and heat seal.
