Chalkboard Spray Paint!!
We moved into this house nearly a year ago and I've always had this vision of turning the folding doors in front of washer and dryer into a giant chalkboard. So a few weeks ago I bought some chalkboard spray paint with the intentions of painting the set of, then I found out I was pregnant. For the weeks since I have sat and looked at the paint and the doors wishing I had taken on this project sooner.
Then yesterday I began working on some projects in the house and decided to take off one of the sets of doors and haul it outside for painting. You can't be in a more ventilated area than outside and I wore a face mask just in case the wind decided to blow at me (which is didn't!). I laid the door over two old lawn chairs that we had and started spraying. It took one and a half cans of Krylon Chalkboard Spray Paint to do one side of the folding doors so for both doors it's going to cost me around $36. The cans are $9 a piece at walmart. I didn't bother with the opposite side of the door because you can't see it.
We put the door in the garage over night because the fumes were still pretty strong even though the door dried within 15-20 minutes. Today I brought it in and hung it back up. I then did the layer of chalk over the entire door and wiped it down. It really was an easy process and I can't wait to get the other side finished!
Here is what the outcome looks like!
Note! I've had people tell me I should have sanded these doors down like mad because the paint will chip off like crazy. Guess I will have to find out!
