Giving more time to God
A little over a month ago my mother in law gave me a birthday gift that requires me to spend more time with God, more time thinking and praying with God. When she gave me this gift she told me that she wanted me to read a chapter of Proverbs and a chapter of Ephesians each day. She gave me a notecard book and in it she had written on four of them a verse that reminded her of me. They read -
Let me hear your loving kindness in the morning; for I trust in you; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Psalm 32:7
Establish my footsteps in your word, and do not let any iniquity have dominion over me. Psalm 119:133
Six weeks have gone by and while I think each day about starting my reading, I do not do it. God has been working on me these last few days and urging me to open up the bag of items my MIL gave me, open up a bible and read. Today I will do just that, I will pick up my bible and read. Now don't get me wrong, I go to church but I have slacked in my time with the Lord during the week. God has blessed my life in so many ways and yet I do not give him nearly enough praise for the blessings he has bestowed upon me. I don't know that my MIL will ever know how much her gift means to me. I know she wants me closer to the Lord, I just had to be ready to take that step. I'm ready now - at least I think.
