Hershey Brownies with Toasted Coconut
Made some amazing brownies today courtesy of Hershey (again). Here is the link to the original recipe with the icing you can make. I opted out of that and used toasted coconut instead.
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup butter or margarine , melted and divided
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup Hershey's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Optional - 1/4 - 1/2 cup Coconut shavings
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease your 9 x 13 pan
Stir together cocoa and baking soda in large bowl
Add 1/3 cup butter and boiling water then stir until mixture thickens.
Stir in sugar, eggs and remaining 1/3 cup butter, stir until smooth.
Add flour, vanilla and salt; blend completely.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Pour into your pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes
While your mix is baking toast your coconut in a skillet. These tend to brown quickly so be sure to stir them often. I opted to just let mine get slightly golden in color. When your brownies or done simply sprinkle them on top.
