New Year Resolutions

The new year hear has started out with a bang and by bang I mean banging my head against a brick wall while the hubby and I dispute everything from baby names to finances. We had decided a few months ago that 2013 was going to be our year and so far we are starting out broke - as in we have less than $100 in our bank account until Jan 10th when we will feel like we hit the jack pot only to see it all fly out the account to bills! But don't get me wrong, I am SO THANKFUL we CAN pay our bills on time, no matter how little money we are left with. We AREN'T behind and for that we will forever be grateful. On the 16th the little girl I watch will come back from a month of being gone and we will for sure feel rich again, LOL.

In all honesty, I'm glad God has started our year out so rough (although having just a tad more money in the bank would have been nice but that's our fault that we didn't plan better). We have been really blessed the last few years and sometimes we need a good kick in the rear to get ourselves into gear. So, with all of that being said, here are our New Year Resolutions / Goals for 2013.

Financially
  • Sell our 1966 F100 (as much as we hate to we need to)
  • Pay our credit cards down to 20% what they are currently (this somehow helps credit to maintain payments or something instead of paying it off completely)
  • Pay off our Chevy Cobalt with tax money or the credit card if the truck isn't sold yet

Family
  • Communicate better as husband and wife
  • Spend more time actively educating Rory
  • Do a little traveling in late summer / early fall

I know some of these might seem like very simple goals but that's what we have. They say to set one resolution per month when the new year comes around so that they don't seem so hard to obtain and we will sort of be doing that just because we have to wait for certain things to happen (such as selling truck) before we can accomplish our next goal. (Wow, that was kind of a long sentence - hopefully grammatically correct!)

2013 might be starting out a little rocky for us but it can only go up from here (that's what I keep telling myself at least). We are looking forward to all this year has to bring - mostly meeting our little boy that will be making his arrival in roughly 14wks, that's April for those of you who don't want to look it up ;)

What are your goals for this year? Have you sat down and even thought about what you might want to accomplish for 2013 or do you just live your life like a free bird and go where the wind takes you? Whether you plan to get our of debt, spend more time with family or travel the world, I hope your 2013 is one that is filled with good memories and lessons to carry with you for the rest of your life.

Happy New Year!

  1. I'm mostly working on keeping my house more tidy- clutter busting! Jim is trying to eat less fast food and gas station red bull- that will help our budget. Seems like money is always tight no matter what, we just have to do our best and be happy with what we have. that being said- we do want to get stuff paid off and start saving something again too... good luck to us all! Can't wait to meet your little guy soon!

  2. The saying, "The more you make, the more you spend" rings true in so many ways with us. We will be working on making more and spending less this year for sure!

I hope Jim can cut back on fast food. That is one of my biggest issues personally. I just love my McD's way too much to be healthy physically and financially!
